Environmental Art Sculpture Creates Awareness for Sea Turtle Protection

Updated: Jan 15, 2020

Sunset Beach has a new environmental art sculpture by the gazebo, thanks to the donation by the non-profit Sunset Vision. The giant sea turtle, named “Sunset Shelly” measuring 5’ wide by 4’ tall was installed in November 2018 as a creative reminder for everyone to protect sea turtles by disposing of debris and trash before leaving the beach.

As part of its efforts to enhance the Sunset Beach experience for residents and visitors alike, Sunset Vision used the proceeds from their 2018 annual art show and sale to commission the sculpture from designer Jim Swaim of Little River, South Carolina.
